1.11: MetaMask

Introduction

MetaMask has become one of the world's most popular wallets for cryptos, largely because of the ease with which it interacts with DeFi apps. Originally designed to be an Ethereum wallet, its functionality has been extended across many other blockchains. It can be used as a stand-alone wallet, or in conjunction with a hardware wallet such as a Ledger Nano X.

Description

MetaMask is an online web wallet available as an extension to most popular web browsers. For privacy reasons, we would always recommend using MetaMask as an extension to Brave Browser.

Installation

  1. Go to the MetaMask website.
  2. Choose your browser and install.
  3. Click "Add to <your browser>" in the upper right corner.
  4. Click "Add Extension" to complete the installation. You will know MetaMask has been installed when you see the fox logo in the upper right-hand corner of your browser.
  5. Click "Get Started".
  6. Click "Create a Wallet".
  7. Agree or not to send data to "Help us improve MetaMask".
  8. Create a password. At this stage there is a short video about securing your wallet — watch it if you are not a seasoned user of cryptos.
  9. Click "Next" and then "Click here to reveal secret words". Write these words down accurately and in order, and store somewhere safe. Never reveal them to anyone else.
  10. Click "Next" and input your recovery phrase.
  11. Click "All Done".

Reinstalling MetaMask

Uninstalling followed by re-installing is often the most common way to deal with bugs. All you need to know is your seed phrase — after a fresh installation of MetaMask, just import the twelve seed words and you are good to go.
